Carol Kino
The Fine Art of Writing about Artists
Carol Kino has been writing about art, artists, and the art world for more than 25 years for publications like The New York Times, The Atlantic Monthly, Art in America, and WSJ Magazine. She has interviewed and profiled some of the leading talents of our time: Maya Lin, Gerhard Richter, David Hockney, Michael Heizer, and Kara Walker, to name but a handful.
In our podcast, Kino tells about the differences between art criticism and art reporting, the difficulties of interviewing Gerhard Richter and formidable dealer-doyenne Marian Goodman, and how long it takes to pull together a well-researched story for top-flight publications. We also examine the possibilities of a nascent art explosion in San Francisco and why people really like to talk to her.
